Super crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, these air fryer chocolate chip cookies are perfect for when you want to make a few freshly baked cookies at a time!cookie pulled in half, close up on parchment paper

Have you ever wanted to make a batch of cookies but wished you could just bake a few at a time so that you could have warm, gooey cookies each time?

The air fryer is your answer! With the air fryer you can make a few (or handful) of freshly baked cookies at a time in half the time it would take you to bake them!

I like to make this recipe and freeze most of the dough for later and make a handful of cookies in the air fryer at a time as I crave them.

This way you don’t waste any cookies and you have dough on hand for whenever you please!

Plus the high temperature and air circulation that the air fryer provides yields a cookie that’s very crispy on the outside and still gooey on the inside. The BEST kind of cookie!

Notes on Ingredients

Butter: I use unsalted because I add in salt later to the dough. Make sure to leave the butter out at room temperature an hour or two before baking to soften.

Eggs: I use large or extra-large. Eggs work best in baking if left out at room temperature prior to baking (but if you forget this won’t make or break your finished product!).

Cinnamon: This is not a necessary ingredient but I like the subtle hint of spice and sweetness it provides!

Chocolate chips: Use semi-sweet chips or use semi-sweet chocolate bars, chopped into chunks. If you like bigger pieces of chocolate in your cookies, use chunks! Or, you could use a mix if you don’t have enough of one or the other!

Walnuts: optional (and not pictured above) but I used them in this recipe because I like a little crunch and nutty flavor in my chocolate chip cookies sometimes!

Expert Tips

*Parchment paper flying up and hitting heating unit of the air fryer could be a fire hazard. To avoid this, make sure you do the following:

  1. Cover at least 2/3 of the parchment paper with dough. This looks like covering all four corners with dough and then 1 or more balls of dough in the middle, depending on the size of your air fryer.
  2. Use a piece of parchment paper that allows for some air flow – this could be buying air fryer parchment paper (that has holes pre cut) or taking the time to cut some holes in your piece of parchment paper.

*I like using my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer for baking cookies. It takes a lot of the time and labor out of making them!

*With the air moving the parchment paper around slightly you may find some of your cookies are a little misshapen (not a perfect circle). This is going to depend on the size of your air fryer, the size of parchment paper you’re using, and how many balls of cookie dough you are dropping. I found dropping five cookies per batch worked the best.

*Every air fryer is different and your cook time may vary slightly. I would aim for 5-7 minutes cook time but know that 6 minutes cook time was the sweet spot for mine. At five minutes, they were just a little too undercooked/gooey and at seven minutes they were a little too crispy.

Air Fryer Cookie FAQs

Can I make air fryer cookies ahead of time?

Yes! The dough will keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days in an airtight container or wrapped tightly with plastic wrap or up to 3 months in the freezer.

To freeze cookie dough, scoop the dough into balls and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Place in the freezer for one hour and then once hardened transfer to a ziploc bag to continue freezing.

Can you make air fryer cookies using frozen cookie dough?

Yes! You may just need to lengthen cooking time by 1-2 minutes.

Can I use foil to bake cookies in the air fryer?

I wouldn’t recommend using foil when baking cookies in the air fryer and would use parchment paper instead.

How should I store air fryer cookies?

You can store cookies at room temperature in an airtight container for 4-5 days or store in the freezer in an airtight container or freezer storage bag for up to 3 months. Be sure they are completely cooled when storing them in the freezer.

What if I don’t have a cookie scoop?

No problem! Just use a spoon to scoop and your hands to roll into balls.

Can I make these cookies gluten-free?

Yes! Substitute all-purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten free flour baking flour.

Notes

  1. Your air fryer size will determine how many cookies per batch. I found that five cookies per batch worked best with my air fryer.
